Everything will be #WOOOOW

60 teams from all over Belarus, including our Smorgon team, take part in the debut season in “Girls Football League”.

- This is a unique project which opens the wonderful world of football for the girls throughout the country. Game №1 is wonderful because it brings a great variety of emotions. Moreover, it breaks down barriers between people: social, political, and gender barriers (which is particularly important today). We make a lot of efforts to turn women's football into a popular kind of sport. Thanks to Football League we take essential steps in this regard, - noticed Mikhail Vergeenko, the vice-chairman of Belarusian Football Federation.

The tournament got the hashtag #WOOOOW, which doesn’t only explain the football players’ actions on the field but also unites all the eight divisions. This hashtag is active in all social networking sites.

According to the rules of the competition, the teams are divided into eight regional zones. The winners of these zones make it into the republican level and at the beginning of June come to Minsk where the best team of Belarus will be chosen in the matches of the cup system.

- Each regional zone has a sports tutor – a professional football player from the Belarusian national team. The professional sportswomen will support the girls, record video messages and, what is even more important, remind them that the main thing in the game is to get pleasure from it, - said the FIFA instructor Nina Travkina.

It’s necessary to admit that Football League is education focused: every division is named after a prominent Belarusian sportswoman.

In the division “Stesha”, where our Smorgon team plays, the girls fight with  the capital teams –  “Slavyanka”, “Start”, “MTF”, “Minsk-1”, “Zorka-BSU”; and with the girls from Molodechno Youth Sports Football School-4 for getting to playoff.
